Former North Park University team captain joins CSUSA

By Team CSUSA
Maja Scharin has joined Team CSUSA as an Operations Consultant in Sweden. Maja played college soccer and was a team captain at North Park University in Chicago. She joins Team CSUSA after several successful years at insurance giant IF P&C.

Maja joins our Operations Team in Team Sweden. She will be working primarily with our Swedish student-athletes in several sports.

– We are thrilled to add someone like Maja to our team. Our students and parents will love working with her. She is excellent at finding solutions and is very resourceful in how she works. From the first time we spoke with Maja, her passion for working with athletes and helping them in their college process was evident. She comes from the big corporate world and has a great understanding of the customer journey and how to build systems with the customer in mind. Just what we need for our Ops team. She still competes at a great national level in soccer too, we’ll feed off her energy every day, said Kim Moe Krohn, COO at College Scholarships USA.

“The Maja Scharin File”

Maja is born and raised in Sundsvall, Sweden, and played soccer in Division 1 North, in a team called Alno IF before she moved to the US.

Her journey to the US started in 2014 when she went abroad as an Au Pair for two years. She then got recruited to North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. In her first season she suffered from knee problems, she started  8 out of 16 games, but in her junior and senior years, she started most games. As a senior, she was named one of the captains of the team and she played an important role in the team.

She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, with a GPA of 3.6 (Cum Laude) and made the Dean’s List for the Spring semester of the 2017-18 school year. In the fall of 2017 and 2018, she was honored as a CCIW All-Academic recipient.

After completing her studies at NPU, Maja stayed in Chicago to do a year of optional practical training (OPT). She moved back to Sundsvall in April 2019, and started working as an insurance advisor at If P&C Insurance.

She is still playing soccer in Heffnersklubbans BK in Division 1, in the north of Sweden.

– My college career started a bit different from most student-athletes as I didn’t go through the regular application process and therefore I didn’t know any other options I might’ve had. I have realized that if I would’ve sought help from CSUSA I would’ve had other opportunities, and if I could change something in my journey I would’ve asked for help. My move to the US and going to college is the best decision I’ve made in my life. I have met amazing people who are friends for life, traveled around the country, and also developed a lot as a person. Not a day goes by without me thinking about this journey that I’ve done and if I could dream, I would do it all over again.  I am looking forward to helping other athletes pursue ambition, said Scharin.
