Hampus Filipsson from Sweden is a Recruitment Associate working primarily with Swedish soccer players at CSUSA. He is based out of our office in Stockholm, Sweden, and joined our team in June 2023 after completing an internship at the company during Spring 2023.

Hampus from Norrtaelje, Sweden played for McKendree University, IL in the NCAA D2, Grand Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) between 2018–2023.

During his time at McKendree University, Hampus played a total of 64 games where he started regularly and was a key player during his years in the US. Hampus also helped make history with McKendree by winning the GLVC for the first time in program history in 2019, as well as making the national playoffs that year for the first time and finishing top 32 in the nation. Furthermore, McKendree regularly qualified for the regional playoffs and made the final in 2019. Hampus started playing as a central midfielder at McKendree but was later converted to right-back. He took his bachelor’s in business administration between 2018–2022 and then his master’s in business administration between 2022–2023.

Before he took the step to college in the USA, Hampus played for BKV Norrtaelje (U17, U19, second team, and first team) and was promoted as a 17-year-old to the first team which played in Div. 2.

Hampus was also a very strong academic student, delivering top grades throughout his years at McKendree. After five years in the US, he made the President’s List (4.00 GPA) three times and the Dean’s List (3.5–3.99 GPA) seven times. Hampus also received the McKendree University School of Business Award, was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and had the honor of carrying the banner for the McKendree University Business Office during the graduation ceremony.

Hampus also tells why he chose to go to the United States and study at college.

“Already after my first year at high school, I started thinking about what I wanted to do after graduation. I had the ambition to pursue a professional soccer career, but I was also aware of the competition and the probability of that happening, so I knew that an education would help me in the long term and secure my future. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity in Sweden to combine both, and that’s when I was introduced to college in the United States. This was like an ‘answer to my prayers’ and I jumped straight into the process, and in hindsight, I could not have made a better decision. Besides the opportunity to play at a very high and competitive level and educate myself academically, I learned so much, not only about myself but also about the world. It was truly an experience of a lifetime and you grow as a person and broaden your views in a unique way when you do something like this. I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of other ambitious people and great players during my time in the US and can happily say that I met three of my best friends at McKendree University and I stay in touch with them even after I graduated and moved back home to Sweden.
