Sports Consultant

California Polytechnic State University

Björn Sandberg from Sweden is a Sports Consultant working primarily with our Swedish soccer players. He is based out of our Södertälje-office just south of Stockholm. He joined Team CSUSA in September 2018.

Björn Sandberg from Södertälje, Sweden played NCAA D1 soccer at Oregon State University and California Polytechnic State University during 2012-2016.

After starting 33 out of 36 games during his freshman and sophomore years at OSU he transferred to Cal Poly where he became a key player during his last two years as a college athlete. Björn earned a Bachelor in Science in Graphic Communications – Business and Management.

Before moving to the US Björn played his youth soccer at the local club FF Södertälje before joining Assyriska FF at the age of 18. In Assyriska FF he was part of the Superettan squad while playing most of his games in the clubs development team in Swedish division 2 before being recruited to Oregon State University.

Björn played basketball beside his soccer career until the age of 17. He competed with local club SBBK and represented the U16 team in EYBL against the top teams of eastern Europe.

Except for playing NCAA D1 soccer during his time in USA Björn represented Portland Timbers U23 and FC Jicaral Sercoba in Costa Rica. In combination with his elite soccer career, Björn has always kept high academic standards and has several honorable mentions and appearances on the Deans list during his four years in the US. After graduating in 2016 Björn has worked as a team leader at AstraZeneca and as a freelance graphic designer.

“After graduating high school I had 3 main targets in my life. I wanted to travel, I wanted to study and I wanted to continue my elite soccer career. The opportunity to become a college athlete in the US could not have been more timely for me and my life situation. All of a sudden I was playing games on live-TV all over the country or in front of 15,000 people. The day after I was studying until 3am to get ready for finals and two days later I was sitting in a car with some of my best friends heading to Canada. I was now in a life situation where I got to travel, study and still chase the dream of becoming a professional soccer player and on top of it making friends for life all over the world. When I got the opportunity to work with CSUSA I did not think twice about it. I do not think that there is a better way to combine sports with academical development and career opportunities than becoming a student athlete in the US. The opportunities are endless if you are willing to explore them.”
